My observation after two weeks of driving on Mumbai roads...
Driving is too exhausting to even think of multitasking.
I can just about do the following:
- checking the rear view mirror, driver side view mirror; passenger side view mirror
- dodging pedestrians, stray dogs and pigeons (I almost killed a pigeon today)
- remembering to change the gears
- checking the traffic lights
- ignoring drivers who think they are in a race car.
- going carefully around really expensive sell-you-house-to-pay-for-damages type cars
- ignoring the honking cars behind you and finally
- remembering to BREATHE during it all...
Is just too much...
Update 2nd November 2012 : I've confidently driven from Powai to Andheri in the peak hour traffic today, though the less said about Uncle D's nerves the better, I believe Uncle D's nerves are never going to be the same..

i too belong to the group of nondriving license holders...i had same fears before riding a bike..for car ill have to wait..keep practicing n remain driven :)
ReplyDeletedriving is certainly not my cup of tea and i'm sure it'll never be but i had real fun riding my brand new bicyle...and it's not that easy either especially with nobody really respecting cyclists, it seemed that i had turned invisible for all the drivers around....but definitely it was some real fun and i'm already looking forward for tomorrow to get on my bike again.
ReplyDeletei just loved the 6th and 7th point :) i hate honking and in Bangalore and with a bike, i have the liberty to actually stop or slow down my bike in a way that the car cannot overtake if he/she decide to play the music for a little too long.
